HELIOS Lantern

Rugged off-grid survival knowledge appliance, solar and hand-crank

The Mickai HELIOS Lantern is a rugged, handheld off-grid survival knowledge appliance. It carries a sealed offline Mickai knowledge brain, first aid, repair, navigation, agriculture, water, shelter, signalling, and a compact reasoning model, and it answers questions in the field with no network and no grid. It charges from an integral solar panel or a hand crank, and a power-aware scheduler keeps the knowledge brain answering down to a trickle of harvested energy. The sealed knowledge set is signed and verifiable through the Open Audit Record, so the operator can trust what it tells them and prove what it was at any point. The Lantern is for the expedition, the lifeboat, the remote clinic, the emergency cache, and the household that wants reliable knowledge that does not depend on a signal or a subscription. The sealed off-grid survival knowledge appliance is the subject of UK patent application GB2612791.0, filed June 2026. The application is filed. The operator owns the device, the keys, and the audit record. No subscription for context or usage. The price you pay on day one is the price you pay for life.

Mickai HELIOS Lantern, the Field appliance
Named after

A lantern is the light you carry when the grid is gone. The HELIOS Lantern carries the Mickai knowledge brain the same way, a sealed light of knowledge that works on harvested or hand-cranked power when nothing else does.

What you can do with HELIOS Lantern

Beyond the standard Windows and Linux workflow, here is what HELIOS Lantern does with the Mickai SIOS running on the box. Concrete capability per category, with the level the hardware can carry.

Mickai SIOS
Sealed knowledge brain

A sealed, signed offline knowledge corpus and a compact reasoning model answering in the field. Field-grade question answering on first aid, repair, navigation, water, shelter, and agriculture with no network and no grid.

Energy
Solar and hand-crank

Integral solar panel and a fold-out hand crank. Around 10 minutes cranking for around an hour of query use. The scheduler keeps answering down to a trickle of harvested energy.

Resilience
Survival grade

IP67 sealed, drop rated to 2 m, wide temperature range, week-long standby. Task light, emergency strobe, and SOS tone built in. The knowledge you carry when the grid is gone.

Productivity
Field reference

Sunlight-readable display for field reference, the operator's own notes stored alongside the sealed corpus, sealed knowledge updates by microSD when back in range.

AI workloads
Compact on-device

A compact on-device model on a low-power NPU, sized to answer reliably within the energy budget. Not a frontier model, an honest field model that runs on cranked power.

Sovereignty
Sealed and verifiable

The knowledge set is sealed in the OAR and verifiable, so the operator can trust what it tells them and prove what it was. No egress, no subscription, operator-owned.

What ships on the box
Patents and substrate

Mickai is held privately by its founder, Micky Irons. One hundred and one UK patent applications have been filed against the substrate, with approximately 2,234 claims across them, on the public UK IPO register under GB2607309.8 onwards. The corpus covers the cooperative architecture, the Open Audit Record, the FIPS 204 ML-DSA-65 signing primitive, the clearance-gated retrieval, the audio dual-layer watermark, the silicon root of trust, and the host-acceptance attestation that lets the Mickai bundle migrate from one machine to another without breaking its signed chain.

Silicon roadmap

Poseidon, the Mickai Sovereign AI SoC. In-house silicon that complements the GPU fabric on every SKU. Carries the OAR signing primitive in silicon, holds the hardware identity and cryptographic root of trust, and sits between the network interface and the GPU fabric so every action that crosses the bus can be policy-checked before commit. Optional on every SKU as the silicon lands.

Pricing and availability

Pricing TBD. The price on day one is the price for life. No subscription for context or usage. Only paid upgrades through the sandboxed channel, optional.

Launch window: Late 2026
